Best Season for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Simikot

Summer months between May to September is an ideal time to undertake this journey. The weather is pleasant with a moderate climate, with average temperature of around 0 to 20C. Plus, summer is also perfect for all outdoor activities- temple visit, dip in holy waters and also for visiting nearby attractions.

While the trek itself isn’t that difficult, the high elevation might prove to be challenging. The trip entails a couple of days in high elevations, walking for long hours and 6-12 hours of driving per day in some days. Hence, being physically fit is highly recommended, so is consulting the doctor prior to the excursion and obtaining necessary advice, as well as medications for traveling in extreme altitude.

Try New Things

  • Accommodation will take place in a 4-star hotel in Kathmandu and Nepalgunj and teahouses while on the trail. Since the trail from Simikot to Hilsa of Nepal is still developing, the accommodation facilities will be fairly basic, hence we will either stay in local tea houses or in tents arranged by Pinnacle Expedition.  All of the rooms in Kathmandu, Nepalgunj and Tibet (except trekking) are on a twin-sharing basis but while trekking both in Nepal and Tibet, accommodation will be done in a common dormitory.

  • While breakfast will be served in hotels in Kathmandu, Nepalgunj and Tibet, all meals will be provided during the trekking days in Nepal. Basic meal will be rice, potatoes, noodles with soups etc. However, since meals won’t be provided in Tibet, it is better to set aside a food budget for lunch and dinner per day while in Tibet.
